What others say about the best Italian restaurant in Cape Town
“A Tavola has been my family’s go-to spot for all special occasions or evenings of sheer indulgence and food-joy! It NEVER disappoints and the view from the dining area into the open-plan kitchen, bursting with enthusiastic chefs, fresh pasta neatly stashed in clear boxes, frying pans flaming up and the smells of only the best and most carefully prepared ingredients on their way to your ever-anticipating palate, is simply divine! I always leave wanting to come back as soon as possible and have yet to taste a single morsel that is not perfectly prepared and beautifully (yet unpretentiously) presented!
Undoubtedly THE BEST Melanzane Parmigiana in Cape Town and I have tried and failed repeatedly, to leave without first savouring every mouthful of their Torte de la Nonna – it is simply FABULOUS! I will remain an enthusiastic and loyal regular! Always simply a pleasure to be there! P.S. The Decor is also totally charming and one feels almost as if one has been transported to a real little gem in the heart of Rome! No frills, no fuss, just excellence time and time again!” — Marijke D
“My wife and I had dinner at a Tavola whilst in Claremont, Cape Town. The food is genuinely Italian, fresh and top notch! The selection of wine very good too. The ambiance is family orientated and since the tables are close in an enclosed space it is a little noisy but one is still able to speak. That, in my view, adds to the atmosphere but would rule it out as a “fine dining” venue despite the quality of the food. A great Italian restaurant for a group of people who really enjoy Italian food! Highly recommended.” — brianpatterson273
“This is the local you take your friends and family to on a special occasion. Non-pretentious, laid back enough for the midweek-I-don’t-feel-like-cooking dinner. But excellent service, delicious food and gorgeous wine list that make it perfect for a celebration too. There is always something on the weekly menu that catches your eye – this week’s ricotta and mushroom parcels a definite winner! As well as a few faithful’s on the standard menu to fall back on – my favourite being Steak Tartare / Linguine Marinara / Veal scallops. This is one of the best Italian spots in Cape Town.” — Michelle M
“A recommendation from our guest house owner – and somewhere we would not otherwise have found. Very busy Friday night meant for a noisy but atmospheric dinner. The menu contained many Italian classics as well as some more imaginative dishes – enhanced by daily specials. The food was excellent and very authentic Italian. Service was also very good – would certainly recommend.” — Baronsboy
“I was so impressed by the food I visited A Tavola twice in a week. On my first visit we ate of the “specials” menu. There was an excellent choice and reasonably priced. The quality of the food was excellent and the staff very attentive. I took my cousin on my second visit and we both chose pasta dishes. The pasta was the best I have ever tasted – mouth-wateringly good. I would suggest booking in advance as it is very busy.” — Maggie R
