Over the past decade there has been a gastronomic revolution that would suggest Cape Town dining is up there with the best in the world. As the chefs and winemakers are keen to point out, the emphasis today is on fresh herbs, fresh vegetables and wines produced with minimal interference, allowing the Cape grapes to speak for themselves.
“I have lived in Cape Town for over 10 years and had never been to A Tavola for dinner. That was a mistake! Hidden off of Claremont main road in a medical centre is one of the best restaurants in town – a real Cape Town dining gem. It is small and quaint, but full of life and flavour. The open kitchen allows you to watch the entire process of your meal being made and the small dining room lets you admire other dishes as they are being taken to the table. Everything I have eaten here has been wonderful. Get there early on weekend nights because it does fill up fast; it is worth the wait though.” – Rachel Hewett, Camps Bay
“Undoubtedly THE BEST Melanzane Parmigiana in Cape Town and I have tried and failed repeatedly, to leave without first savouring every mouthful of their Torte de la Nonna – it is simply FABULOUS! I will remain an enthusiastic and loyal regular of this Cape Town dining establishment! Always simply a pleasure to be there! P.S. The Decor is also totally charming and one feels almost as if one has been transported to a real little gem in the heart of Rome! No frills, no fuss, just excellence time and time again!” — Marijke D, Bishops Court
“A Tavola is an authentic and utterly delicious Cape Town dining spot in Claremont. Bernard and I ventured into the ‘burbs to try out its best-kept secret (well, to us it’s a secret – us townies had little to no knowledge of its brilliant existence). Family-owned and run, and catering to families with warmth and pride, A Tavola is a Cape Town dining place I could go back to – regularly.” – Lisa Wallace, Vredehoek
“If you’re living in and around the Claremont area then you’ll probably already know about it, but A Tavola is a particular favourite Cape Town dining spot of mine. Good atmos, great wines and the best pasta this side of… oh, I don’t know… some other town where they do a better pasta. Anyway, it’s very good. Always good value, always excellent – and the place is always full.” – Alex O’Man, Kenilworth
